On Call

The walkthrough

How On Call works

On Call is a two-sided marketplace: facilities post the shifts they need covered, physicians apply to the ones that fit, and one decisive accept closes the loop. Here is the whole journey, step by step, for each side.

If you're a physician

From profile to confirmed shift

  1. Sign up and complete your profileChoose the physician role, then add your specialty, city, years of experience, and SCFHS license number. You can also list an indicative day rate and the date you're available from. Facilities see these when they review your applications.
  2. Browse open shiftsEvery open shift shows the facility, dates, shift time (day, night, or 24-hour on-call), requirements, and the rate in SAR. Narrow the list by specialty, city, and shift time, or search by keyword.
  3. Apply with a cover noteOne application per shift, with a short note explaining why you're the right fit. You can apply to as many open shifts as you like, and withdraw any pending application at any time.
  4. Hear backYou're notified the moment a facility accepts or declines. An accepted application confirms the shift and adds it to your schedule; if another physician is chosen, your application is declined automatically so you're never left waiting.
  5. Coordinate and workEach application opens a private message thread with the facility. Use it to settle arrival times, handover details, and anything else before day one. Your upcoming accepted shifts live on your schedule page.

If you run a facility

From open roster gap to filled shift

  1. Sign up and describe your facilityChoose the facility role and tell physicians who you are: hospital, clinic, medical center, or polyclinic, plus your city, commercial registration number, and MOH license.
  2. Post a shiftGive it a clear title, pick the specialty, set start and end dates, choose day, night, or 24-hour cover, and state your rate in SAR: per hour, per day, or per shift. Add requirements so the right physicians self-select.
  3. Watch applications arriveYou're notified with every new applicant. Each application shows the physician's name, specialty, years of experience, city, indicative day rate, and cover note: everything you need to compare candidates in one view.
  4. Accept the right fitAccepting one applicant marks the shift as filled, notifies the physician, and automatically declines and notifies every other pending applicant in the same step. No awkward follow-ups left on your list.
  5. Coordinate and stay in controlMessage your accepted physician directly to arrange the details. Until a shift is filled you can edit it, close it if plans change, and reopen it if they change back.

Statuses

The life of a shift

Every shift and every application has a clear status, so both sides always know where things stand.

Shift statuses

  • OpenVisible to physicians and accepting applications. The facility can still edit or close it.
  • FilledAn applicant was accepted. The shift is locked and appears on the physician's schedule.
  • ClosedWithdrawn from the board by the facility. It can be reopened as long as it was never filled.

Application statuses

  • PendingWaiting on the facility's decision. The physician can withdraw at any time.
  • AcceptedThe facility chose this physician: the shift is theirs.
  • DeclinedThe facility passed, or another applicant was accepted. Either way, the physician is notified immediately.
  • WithdrawnThe physician stepped back before a decision was made.

Messaging

Messaging, scoped to the work

The moment a physician applies, On Call opens a private thread between that physician and that facility, tied to that specific shift. Both sides can ask questions before a decision and coordinate the practical details after one. No public inboxes, no cold messages: conversations exist only where an application does.

Notifications

Notifications, so nothing slips

New applications, acceptances, declines, withdrawals, and messages all land as in-app notifications with a link straight to the thing that changed. Unread counts sit on the sidebar, so a quick glance tells you whether anything needs you.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Who can join On Call?
Two kinds of accounts: licensed physicians looking for locum work in Saudi Arabia, and healthcare facilities, meaning hospitals, clinics, medical centers, and polyclinics, that need temporary coverage. You choose your role when you sign up.
How are rates set?
The facility sets the rate on every shift it posts, in Saudi riyals, per hour, per day, or per shift, and physicians see it before applying. Physicians can also list an indicative day rate on their profile so facilities know their expectations early.
Can I apply to more than one shift?
Yes. Apply to as many open shifts as you like. Each shift takes one application per physician, and you can withdraw any pending application if your plans change.
What happens when a facility accepts an application?
In a single step the shift is marked filled, the accepted physician is notified, and every other pending applicant on that shift is declined and notified automatically. Nobody is left guessing.
Can a facility change a shift after posting it?
A shift can be edited while it's open. Facilities can also close an open shift if plans change and reopen it later, but once a shift is filled, it's locked.
How do the two sides communicate?
Every application opens a private message thread between the physician and the facility, and in-app notifications flag new messages. There's no public messaging: conversations are always tied to a real application.
